Have you noticed all the recent headlines rooted in unfaithfulness, especially in the church? I’m both amazed and appalled by how many there are. Two specific and separate cases have really troubled me—the Caleb Flynn case and the JP Miller case—because they cause me to wonder who I really can trust? Who keeps covenant anymore? Who is still faithful? And I don’t have the answers to those questions, humanly-speaking, but I am assured that my God remains faithful.
If you’ve felt confused and anxious lately with all the bombardment of news where Christians have fallen away, take a moment and read these verses detailing God’s faithfulness aloud. The use of multiple senses reinforces the promises in your mind; trust me, it’s scientific. 🙂 I wrote out 20 passages, and there are many, many more. Lily and I have been praying through them every morning, so I wanted to share them here.
Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
2 Timothy 2:13 “If we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.”
Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you will be able to endure it.”
Psalm 91:4 “He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.”
Romans 5:8 “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Psalm 13:5-6 “But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.”
Psalm 27:10 “For my father and mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.”
Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me, when you shall seek me with all your heart.”
Lamentations 3:23 “they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Deuteronomy 7:9 “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.”
Psalm 36:5 “Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.”
Psalm 119:90 “Your faithfulness endures to all generations.”
1 Corinthians 1:9 “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 5:24 “He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.”
Revelation 19:11 “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.”
Psalm 118:6 “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
When life feels dark and hopeless, and you begin to wonder who really is trustworthy, read through these promises. Lying and deceit are not part of God’s nature. He’s trustworthy, He’s believable, and He’s faithful.
