Abnormal Labs and Wobbly Faith

Lily and I are in Pricilla Shirer’s intense Armor of God Study with a group of ladies we’ve come to treasure. Last week was all about the shoes of peace. If you’ve known me a while, you’d know that I’ve always been a highly anxious person. If there’s not even anything to worry about, I’ll worry about it.

Yesterday morning I had a follow-up appointment for some abnormal labs that were concerning due to family history. Just before I left home, Lily asked, “Are you scared?” And I could honestly answer, “no.” Concerned, maybe. Anxious, no. Before my appointment, I began this week’s study—shield of faith, where I learned that real faith is putting belief in God’s truth into action.

Pricilla says it this way, “faith is acting like God is telling the truth.” There’s no faith without action!

So, as I sat in my little exam room waiting, a whisper of anxiety flittered in. But I knew Who my God is, and I’ve proven that I can believe what He says, and I know the enemy is out to destroy my peace and distract me, I literally said out loud to the enemy, “You are NOT stealing my peace!” All the uncertainty drained away.

Funny thing, I wasn’t there for a blood pressure concern, but I’ve had hypertension since age 19 that’s been ruled anxiety-induced, and, yesterday, my blood pressure was the lowest I’ve ever seen it: 114/76.

Back to the troublesome labs…all is well for now.
Thank you, Jesus.

I still left the office with tears streaming. Not because of fear or good news or anything medically related. But because my Abba is so good.

Here’s the thing: in that early morning study on faith, I read 3 different accounts of biblical people who stepped out in faith, put action behind their belief, and were held and provided for by God, essentially rewarded for their faith. And right there at behind the checkout desk, at my eye level, was a poster that read—

FAITH IS TRUSTING GOD EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND HIS PLAN.

Kismet, synchronous, call it what you want, but I know my God went before me and orchestrated that hanging of that poster to let me know He saw my faith, wobbly as it may be, and held me. He’s so good, y’all.
